SOCCER

Sports Director

Accountability and Liaisons:
-Elected by and accountable to community association
-Serves as a Member of the Executive Committee
-Reports to the President
-Liaison to the Sports Committees

Position Summary:
The Sports Director is responsible for directing the various committees and people to run and successful youth sports program including, but not limited to, hockey, soccer, and baseball.

Job Requirements:
- Commitment to the work and strategic direction of the Community Association
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Support of and participation in special events organized by the Community Association
- Attendance at monthly board meetings (4th Monday every month at 7 pm) and AGM (June)
- Willingness to serve on Committees when required

General Duties:
- Presides at meetings of the Association in the absence of both the President and Vice President
- Replaces the President at various functions when asked to do so by the President or the Board
- Is a member of the Executive Committee
- Assumes the duties of the Treasurer or Secretary in their absence
- Provides leadership, guidance and assistance to the Sports committees
- Write article for Community Newsletter (Jan, March, May, July, September, and November)

Soccer and Ball Committee:  (2008 = 600 soccer players, 76 ball players)

Job Requirements:

General Duties:

November: Order Signs advertising Registration (for January)
- March: Order Port-a-potties
- March: Book photographer for team photos in May
- March: Coaches clinic – work with MSB to arrange date and time in Hidden Valley

- April: Develops schedule for HVCA Spring Sports League (currently using software)

Registration Volunteer(s):

Position Summary:

General Duties:

Works with Thriva administration to set up registration forms (training and support provided)
- Trouble shoots
- Processes any cheques/cash payments

Technical Volunteer(s)

Accountability and Liaisons:
- Reports to the Sports Director

Position Summary:

Responsible for the organizing the administrative duties related to the HVCA Spring Sports League. (no lining required on ball fields)

Job Requirements:
- Strong organizational skills
- Good Communication Skills

General Duties:
Soccer Field Lining

Initial field lining – the weekend before the season starts

  • Coordinate team of 10 people
  • Line the U5/U6, U8, U10 and U12 fields (work with coordinators and scheduler for numbers of fields required)
  • Provide update field map for website

Field Maintenance – responsible for maintaining the lines on all fields throughout the season

  • Contact equipment coordinator for more paint

Equipment Volunteer(s)

Accountability and Liaisons:
- Reports to the Sports Director

 Position Summary:
-
Maintains, organizes and orders equipment for Sports Programs in Hidden Valley.

Job Requirements:
- Strong organizational skills

General Duties:

- January: Inventory equipment and order as necessary (see baseline equipment needs list)
- February: Take all keeper jerseys and shorts to be sanitized
- April: Assemble equipment bags for each team
- April: Organize equipment hand out prior to season start
- June: Organize equipment return on the last Wednesday night of the season (pick up at the fields and drop off at Hut)

Coordinator Volunteers

Accountability and Liaisons:
- Reports to the Sports Director

Position Summary:
At least nine people are needed (1-U5, 2-U6, 2-U8, 1-2 U10, 1- ICHL U12*, T-ball and Coach

Job Requirements:
-
Strong organizational skills
- Good Communication skills
- Strong Computer skills an asset

General Duties
- Organize coaches on Thriva computer system (training and support provided)
- Assemble teams on Thriva computer system  (training and support provided)
- Present at equipment handout to hand out equipment
- *ICHL U12 Coordinator- U12 is a NW intercommunity house league. Coordinator will be required to attend meetings out of Hidden Valley (in NW Calgary) to plan season. Organizes referees for home games


Soccer Coach

What:  A soccer coach is really a team manager.  They are responsible for contacting their team and notifying the players of game schedules, distributing and collecting the uniforms, picking up and bringing the team’s equipment, coordinating pre-game practices, and helping run/referee the game with the opposing coach. Many times they also act as the mentor to an assistant coach

Each team requires two coaches, and the number of teams is dependent on the number of children registered and paid up.

Commitment:  A couple of hours pre-season to contact team members and assistant coach. Attend and each game (1 hr/game, twice a week for 8 weeks).  Deciding, in conjunction with other coaches, whether the game goes on during poor weather. Participating in a one-day coaching clinic.

The reward(s):  Knowing that with a little bit of commitment you have a direct impact on a future soccer star. Getting to see the dramatic changes in your players throughout the season.  Getting to be known in your community and getting to meet and know the kids that your kids will be playing with in school.


Assistant Soccer Coach

What:  The assistant soccer coach is the back up coach.  The coach of the team will usually work with the assistant coach to determine how much help is required.  Typically this has meant helping with game day practices and with assisting the kids during the game.  See Soccer Coach for some of the duties that may be shared.

Each team requires at least one coach, and the number of teams is dependent on the number of children registered and paid up.

Commitment:  A couple of hours pre-season to meet and determine what help the coach needs during the season. Attend and help the coach for each game (1 hr/game, twice a week for 8 weeks).  Participating in a one-day coaching clinic.

Getting to see the dramatic changes in your players throughout the season.  Getting to be known in your community and getting to meet and know the kids that your kids will be playing with in school.  Getting the experience to become a lead coach.

Liaison to the City of Calgary:

Accountability and Liaisons:
- Reports to the Sports Director

 Position Summary:
Responsible for being a liaison to the City of Calgary for all Sports in Hidden Valley

Job Requirements:

Strong organizational skills
- Good Communication skills

General Duties
Drop in Sports Program at Valley Creek School (Tues 6-9 Sept-Dec, Jan-March)

  • Works with the City of Calgary and Valley Creek School to determine dates
  • Ensures form signed by Valley Creek Principal releasing dates
  • Organize permits
  • Ensure permits are paid by HVCA

MSB at St Elizabeth Seton (Mon 6:30-9:30 Sept-Dec, Jan-March)

  • Work with MSB and St Elizabeth Seton to determine dates
  • Organize permits
  • Ensure permits are paid for by MSB

Fields for spring Sports (April- June)

  • Organize permits for HVCA Spring Sports league
  • Ensure permits are paid for by HVCA

Wind Up Party

Accountability and Liaisons:
- Reports to the Sports Director

Position Summary:
Plans wind up party for Players, families and coaches involved in HVCA Spring Sports League

Job Requirements:
-
Strong organizational skills
- Good Communication skills

General Duties:
-
Plans party for the Saturday following season end (usually Father’s Day Weekend)
- Plans food and entertainment
- Organizes volunteers
- Works with Sports Director for Budget for party

HOCKEY

Administration:
- Bold signs to advertise registration

 Registration:
- Good computer skills an asset
- Works with Thriva administration to set up registration forms (training and support provided)
- Trouble shoots
- Processes any cheques/cash payments

Technical:
- Rink and Ice surface Maintenance
- Initial Flooding
- Regular Ice sweeping and reflooding

Equipment:
- Jersey inventory and handout

 Coordinator:
- Organizes teams and coaches on Thriva computer system (training and support provided)

Scheduler:
- Develops league schedule
- Develops schedule for wind up tournament

Windup Party:
- Organizes food, entertainment and volunteers
